How to Clean Your Laptop
If you want to ensure your laptop lasts for many years to come then you will have to make sure you maintain it correctly. Proper maintenance does not only involve upgrading and cleaning the software but it also involves the manual cleaning of the laptop itself.
Gather Your Supplies
You will usually begin by gathering all of your cleaning supplies. You will need to make sure you have a damp cloth, a dust-resistant cloth, a can of pressurised air and rubbing alcohol. Once you have all of the supplies, you can begin by switching off your laptop and removing the laptop battery. You must make sure that you do not spill water into any of the components of the laptop. Keep all liquids away from the laptop at all times. If you need to wet your cloth then you should do this away from the laptop.
Cleaning the Case
The case is the first item that you will need to clean. Make sure that you use a damp cloth or rubbing alcohol in order to clean it. Never use an excessive amount of water when cleaning any of the components of your laptop as this will damage the operating systems and possibly render the laptop useless.
Cleaning the Case Openings
The case openings often gather dust. This dust can affect the temperature of the laptop and it might cause problems in the long run. In order to clean the dust from the case openings, you will need to use pressurised air. This will remove the dust and allow air to flow freely into the openings.
Cleaning the Keyboard
The keyboard is usually cleaned with a damp cloth. You can also use the compressed air to get smaller particles of dirt from around the keys. It is important not to remove the keys from the board unless you are sure that this can be done. If you are not careful, you might break the keys off and the laptop will need to be replaced.
Cleaning the Touchpad and the Mouse
The touchpad is usually very sensitive but as it gathers dust, it becomes less so. If you want to improve the sensitivity of this part of the laptop then you need to ensure that it is properly cleaned with a damp cloth.
Consulting with a Professional
In order to clean any of the internal components, you will need to consult with a professional. Any mistakes on your part might render your laptop useless and this is something that you will want to avoid. Once you have completed the cleaning process, your laptop should function optimally.
