Putting an advertisement in a local paper can be a great way of cheaply selling any items you have, such as wood flooring, that you no longer need and want to get rid of. Many people scour the ads that are in local papers looking for a bargain to be had or maybe hoping that a particular item they require will be advertised. Some people are looking for items on a budget and will quickly snap up any items that you have available; selling via advertisements in papers is a great alternative to throwing out items or taking them to the local skip. Many household items are disposed of at a skip every day throughout the UK and many items, that can’t be recycled, are taken to vast landfills where they are buried and stay in the ground. This practice is extremely damaging for the environment and for any local wildlife and so selling your item on to someone who could get good use out of it is a much better alternative. It is also possible to advertise items for sale on notice boards that are commonly found in supermarket and small shops; it is normally free to post items on boards such as these and when you have successfully sold your item you just need to let the store know to take your advert off the board.

Placing an advertisement

Placing an advertisement to sell items such as wood flooring is very easy. Most papers have an online service that you can use to place your notices however you can usually call the advertisement team and place it with them directly if that is easier for you. You will need to state what the item is and include a brief description of the condition it is in. You then state the price you are asking for; some people also say ‘or best offer’ which encourages people to still contact you even if they think the initial price you are asking is too high. You may need to include a mobile number so that people can contact you whilst you are not at home; some buyers are very eager and will call straight away to avoid the item being sold to someone else. The person who contacts you will probably want to see the item before they commit to buying so it is a good idea to have it our ready and give it a clean with some soapy water and a dust to make it look presentable. If you are selling an electrical item and have the manual then it is a good idea to include this with the item.
